Evaluation of an Aerial Recovery Parachute System for Black Brant MK-VB Sounding Rocket Payload. SEP 1972
Authors:  Laurence T. Byam; AIR FORCE FLIGHT TEST CENTER EDWARDS AFB CA
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. This report presents an evaluation of an aerial recovery parachute system designed for use on the Black Brant MK-VB sounding rocket payload. Fourteen aerial drop tests were made from C-130 or B-52 aircraft flying at equivalent airspeeds ranging from 120 to 215 kt and at pressure altitudes ranging from 6,650 to 40,000 ft. One unsuccessful rocket-launched test was conducted at Eglin AFB, Florida. Cylindrical test vehicles, weight bombs, payload mockups, ...

Laboratory Evaluation of a Folding-Sidewall Aircraft Tire. JAN 1972
Authors:  Paul M. Wagner; AIR FORCE FLIGHT DYNAMICS LAB WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OH
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The 38.5/28 x 13.0-16, 12-ply rating, folding-sidewall tire was laboratory evaluated by the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory for installation on a USAF C-131B cargo aircraft. A compact fold is offered by the tire, with a folded outside diameter of 28 inches and an expanded diameter of 38 inches. Rapid folding of the tire in 14 seconds from the rated inflation pressure was repeatedly demonstrated between simulated takeoff and landing ...

Tiedown Tests for Air Transport of the W62/H1224 Weapon/Container Configuration. AUG 1970
Authors:  Frank T. Krek; AIR FORCE SPECIAL WEAPONS CENTER KIRTLAND AFB NM
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Aircraft tiedown configurations for transport of the W62/H1224 weapon/container combination in centerline and/or noncenterline unpalletized locations of C-130, C-133, C-141, and C-135(K)A aircraft were designed and tested by the Air Force Special Weapons Center. Testing was performed at the request of the Air Force Weapons Laboratory to provide source data for -16 Technical Orders. As the result of testing, it was ascertained that these configurations meet the acceptance criteria specified ...

THE RESPONSE OF A HOVERING V/STOL AIRCRAFT TO DISCRETE TURBULENCE. JUN 1967
Authors:  Orest R. Gogosha; Thomas E. Moriarty; AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OH SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The report analyzes the performance of the XC-142A V/STOL aircraft in hover when subjected to discrete turbulence inputs in the form of vortices and wind shear. The aircraft and turbulence are replaced by approximate mathematical models and the response of the aircraft is calculated using a digital computer. By using the results of a separate analog simulation, two pilot transfer functions are developed which satisfactorily perform the assigned station keeping ...

REVIEW OF THE ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY REPORT FOR THE SST AND SUPPORTING MATERIALS. 13 APR 1967
Authors:  CHARLES RIVER ASSOCIATES INC CAMBRIDGE MASS
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The review focuses on the aggregate demand for air travel in the period to 1990 and the demand for SST's in the same period. An outline is given of the use of the IDA aggregate demand forecast. A description is given of the assumptions made in the application of a pricing decision methodology to the forecast of aircraft demand. Incidental findings are presented resulting from application of the RAC formulas ...

AN EVALUATION OF THE WING-IN-GROUND EFFECT (WIG) TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT CONCEPT. NOV 1966
Authors:  Paul Comisarow; Gary W. Brasseur; DAVID TAYLOR MODEL BASIN WASHINGTON D C AERODYNAMICS LAB
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.An evaluation was made of the 'wing in ground effect' (WIG) interface vehicle as a cargo transport. The WIG aircraft designs, with high lift/drag ratios, showed significant increases in payload-range over current and proposed cargo aircraft (specifically, the c-141 and the C-5A). However, results indicate that the C-5A cargo aircraft would have a somewhat higher productivity than the WIG cargo transport. The large differences in cruise speed between these aircraft negated ...

EVALUATION OF INERTIAL NAVIGATION SYSTEM IN CIVIL AIR TRANSPORT OPERATIONS. VOLUME I. LN-12. INERTIAL NAVIGATION SYSTEM. BOOK I. DISCUSSION AND ANALYSIS. 15 JUN 1966
Authors:  Robert J. Holm; LITTON SYSTEMS INC WOODLAND HILLS CA GUIDANCE AND CONTROL SYSTEMS DIV
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A Litton LN-12 Inertial Navigation System, with a Bendix Corporation Inertial Navigation Steering Computer, was flown in a Pan American World Airways DC-8 aircraft for 55 scheduled transatlantic crossings and 32 other short flights, domestic and foreign. Performance data were collected on inertial accuracy, steering behavior, track holding, maintenance, reliability, in-flight operation, position checks and azimuth drift. Eighty percent of the flights exhibited terminal errors of 10 miles or less ...

AIRCRAFT GROUND-FLOTATION INVESTIGATION. PART II. DATA REPORT ON TEST SECTION 1. APR 1966
Authors:  W. N. Brabston; A. H. Rutledge; W. J. Hill Jr.; ARMY ENGINEER WATERWAYS EXPERIMENT STATION VICKSBURG MS
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A description is presented of work undertaken as part of an overall program to develop ground-flotation criteria for the C-5A aircraft. A test section was constructed to a width adequate for two test lanes. Each lane was divided into three items having different subgrade CBR values. Two items were unsurfaced, and the remaining item was surfaced with modified T11 aluminum landing mat. Traffic was applied to the lanes using a ...

AIRCRAFT GROUND-FLOTATION INVESTIGATION PART III. DATA REPORT ON TEST SECTION 2. APR 1966

The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A description is presented of work undertaken as part of an overall program to develop ground-flotation criteria for the C-5A aircraft. A test section was constructed to a width adequate for two similar test lanes. Each lane was divided into three items having different subgrade CBR values and different traffic surfaces. Item 1 was surfaced with modified T11 aluminum landing mat, item 2 with M8 steel landing mat, and item ...

STABILITY AND CONTROL AND PERFORMANCE TEST (PHASE D) ON THE CV-7A TRANSPORT AIRPLANE. MAR 1966
