A FIELD STUDY OF TIDE-INDUCED SAND MOVEMENT ON DEL MONTE BEACH, CALIFORNIA. JUN 1968
Authors:  Glen E. Eubanks; NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Beach-elevation measurements were made and sand samples were collected daily along a profile extending from the back of the beach out to a water depth of approximately 23 feet. Wave and tide data were measured continuously at the site. The beach is well sheltered, and low swell parallel to the beach predominates. Offshore-onshore movement of the plunge point by the tides exerts a large influence on the textural parameters which ...

BUDGET OF LITTORAL SANDS IN THE VICINITY OF POINT ARGUELLO, CALIFORNIA. DEC 1966
Authors:  A. J. Bowen; D. L. Inman; ARMY COASTAL ENGINEERING RESEARCH CENTER WASHINGTON D C
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. This report shows the results of a detailed analysis of the various littoral processes which affect the California Coast between Pismo Beach and Santa Barbara. The method involves the concept of a sand budget based on the transport rates of all significant littoral processes. Each process is examined to assess the sedimentary contributions (credits) and losses (debits). To balance the sediment transports, the region is subdivided into five cells, the ...

THE RESPONSE OF SOILS TO DYNAMIC LOADINGS, REPORT NO. 25: MISCELLANEOUS STUDIES OF THE FORMATION OF WAVE FRONTS IN SAND. MAY 1966
Authors:  Robert V. Whitman; MASSACHUSETTS INST OF TECH CAMBRIDGE DEPT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. This report contains: (1) Data concerning the stress-strain behavior of dry Monterey sand using initial static stresses ranging from 2 to 20 psi: (a) Stress-strain curves for one-dimensional compression with rise-times on the order of 25 milliseconds and stress increments of 100 psi; (b) Dilatational wave velocities measured using ultrasonic pulses and pulses generated by a hammer blow; (2) Theory for the dispersion of a wave front passing through a ...

SAND MOVEMENT ALONG A PORTION OF THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST. OCT 1965
Authors:  John Cherry; ARMY COASTAL ENGINEERING RESEARCH CENTER WASHINGTON D C
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Long-term beach and offshore sand movement along the northern California coast between Drakes Bay and Russian River is studied. Analysis of wave, sand and geological data, coupled with known configurations and behavioral processes of stable beaches, suggests little net alongshore movement under present conditions and that beaches are generally in equilibrium with negligible loss. This analysis is confirmed through heavy mineral analysis of surface samples. Point Reyes and Bodega Head ...

ULTRASONIC SHEAR WAVE VELOCITIES IN SAND AND CLAY. JAN 1965 1 pages
Authors:  Frederick V. Lawrence Jr; MASSACHUSETTS INST OF TECH CAMBRIDGE DEPT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING
The full text of this report is available for sale.A study in which the ultrasonic shear wave velocity was measured in sand and clay is described. The use of the shear wave, rather than the longitudinal wave, offers the possibility of studying stress wave propagation through the skeleton of a soil independently of the pore fluid. The apparatus developed used ferreoelectric ceramics to produce and receive a pulsed, torsional shear wave in cylindrical soil samples subjected to various states ...

DYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF IMMERSED SAND AT VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA. DEC 1964
Authors:  Wyman Harrison; Reinaldo Morales-Alamo; VIRGINIA INST OF MARINE SCIENCE GLOUCESTER POINT
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.On March 25, 1963, 219 sand samples were taken from the shoaling-wave, breaking-wave, swashbackwash, and foreshore zones of the beach. The following measurements were used to describe the properties of the samples: mean settling velocity in nature (as determined with a Woods Hole Rapid Sand Analyzer and a special set of curves for settling velocity as a function of temperature), mean Reynolds number (in nature), and mean drag coefficient (for ...

CALCULATION PROCEDURE FOR SAND TRANSPORT BY WIND ON NATURAL BEACHES, APR 1964
Authors:  Abdel-Latif Kadib; CALIFORNIA UNIV BERKELEY WAVE RESEARCH LAB
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Available methods for calculating the actual rate of sand transport by wind are summarized. Specific procedures and calculation for determining the annual rate of sand transported from the beach inland by wind at Salmon Beach, California are presented. (Author)

ON WATER PERMEABILITY OF FROZEN SAND, 11 OCT 1963
Authors:  V. D. Komarov; FOREIGN TECHNOLOGY DIV WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OHIO
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.

THE RESPONSE OF SOILS TO DYNAMIC LOADINGS. THE DYNAMIC PASSIVE PRESSURE PROBLEM FOR SAND, MAY 1963
Authors:  William C. Kerr; MASSACHUSETTS INST OF TECH CAMBRIDGE
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The dynamic counterpart of the passive earth pressure problem was investigated (in a prelimi nary way) both experimentally and theoretically. The experiments revehat the pattern of sand movements is quite different for static and for very rapid loadings. With rapid loadings, a 'crater' is excavated behind the wall, presuma bly as the result of 'spalling' of the cohesion less surface. (Author)

BULLETIN. VOLUME 9, NUMBER 2, 01 APR 1955
Authors:  Thelbert K. Hodges ; CORPS OF ENGINEERS WASHINGTON D C BEACH EROSION BOARD
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Contents: Sand by-passing at Hillsboro Inlet, Florida; Progress reports on research sponsored by the Beach Erosion Board; and Beach erosion studies.
