 | Environmental test support for the qualification testing of an active dosimeter to be flown on the first NASA Skylab Mission as part of Department of Defense Experiment DOO8 was provided by AFSWC. The dosimeter was subjected to acceleration, shock, vibration, low temperature, high temperature, and low pressure conditions. The dosimeter was visually inspected and operated after each test. | Exposure-rate and total-exposure effects on the response of various gamma dosimeters were investigated by means of a flash X-ray machine. The dosimeters studied were manganese-activated calcium fluoride microthermoluminescent dosimeters (MicroTLD), lithium fluoride (MicroTLD), cobalt-activated borosilicate glass and silver-activated metaphosphate glass. Dosimeter responses are given. (Author) |

| CHARGED PARTICLE TRACKS IN POLYMERS NO. 5: A COMPUTER CODE FOR THE COMPUTATION OF HEAVY-ION RANGE-ENERGY RELATIONSHIPS IN ANY STOPPING MATERIAL, |
03 OCT 1967 |
| Authors:
Richard P. Henke; Eugene V. Benton; NAVAL RADIOLOGICAL DEFENSE LAB SAN FRANCISCO CALIF
 | A computer program to generate range and stopping power tables is described. This program can be used to compute the range and rates of energy loss of any ion in any stopping material of known atomic composition over the energy interval 0.04 - 1200 MeV/nucleon. The program extends the generalized expressions of Barkas and Berger to lower energies by using the range data of Whaling and the range extensions for ... |

 | Dyed color films manufactured for theatrical lighting have been tested for dosimetric response between 100,000 and 10 to the 8th power roentgens. Optical density for 61 colored films as a function of wavelength was measured before and after an exposure of 50 million roentgens. Based on the sensitivity and stability of the 61 exposed films, two were investigated for change in optical density at an optimum wavelength as a function ... |

 | The design, development, and testing of a spaceflight experiment to provide data for the assessment of mathematical shielding study models was investigated. The experiment was to provide data for assessment of mathematical shielding study models for comparison with the results obtained by a computer program. This experiment measured proton depth-dose distribution, bremsstrahlung production, and the effects of radiation anisotropy, energy spectrum, and vehicle heterogeneity under known (measured) conditions of radiation ... |

 | A quadrilateral configuration of four movable uncollimated Co60 sources with a total activity of 9,000 curies was used to obtain exposure measurements in air and depth doses in a masonite phantom for radiation experiments involving sheep. The depth dose distribution in the phantom in the four source exposure is compared to distributions obtained using a single collimated Co60 source four times in succession to simulate the four source array and ... |

| GLASS MICRODOSIMETRY SYSTEM USED AT THE U. S. ARMY NUCLEAR DEFENSE LABORATORY, |
MAY 1964 |
| Authors:
Edward E. Lissak; Robert J. Smith; ARMY NUCLEAR EFFECTS LAB EDGEWOOD ARSENAL MD
 | The silver-activated phosphate-glass microdosimeter system employed at the U.S. Army Nuclear Defense Laboratory is explained. The advantages and disadvantages of the system, as well as the iodiosyncracies of the microdosimeters themselves, are reported. It is concluded that this system provides an efficient and reliable method of determining gamma dose in the range from 10400 000 rads. (Author) |

 | Five computer-indicators and 500 detectors based on the Phase II experimental models have been produced. Official designations given to these units by BuShips are Computer Indicator, Radiac CP784 (XN-1) /PD and Detector, Radiac DT284 (XN-1) /PD. The production of the detectors involved the preparation of the thermoluminescent phosphor, the manufacture of the vacuum tube detectors, the digitally coded handles, locks, plastic tube bases and spacers, and the detector cases.
