HIGH TEMPERATURE ALKALI METAL RESISTANT INSULATION 10 OCT 1964 108 pages
Authors:  W. H. Snavely; R. E. McVay; R. E. Stapleton; R. J. Towner; J. W. Ogden; WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP LIMA OH
The full text of this report is available for sale.Selected materials were exposed to potassium vapor at 850C. materials were selected from this group for a transformer test device. Preliminary transformers were fabricated for electrical testing in potassium vapor. Several types of ceramic-to-metal seals were obtained or fabricated for use as electrical terminal seals in potassium exposure capsules.

HIGH TEMPERATURE ALKALI METAL RESISTANT INSULATION 10 JUL 1964 71 pages
Authors:  W. H. Snavely; R. E. McVay; R. E. Stapleton; WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP LIMA OH
The full text of this report is available for sale.Materials were selected for 850C potassium vapor exposure. A transformer was designed and selected as a test device to determine the combined effect of 600C potassium vapor, fluctuating magnetic fields and high a-c voltage on insulators, potting compounds, magnetic materials, and electrical conductors. Potassium vapor corrosion tests are in progress on the materials that will be used in the final test transformer. Ceramic to metal seal development is being studied ...

DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH TEMPERATURE ALKALI METAL RESISTANT INSULATED WIRE 15 NOV 1963 103 pages
Authors:  E. S. Bober; W. H. Snavely; R. E. Stapelton; WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP LIMA OH
The full text of this report is available for sale. The program effort is directed toward the development of an insulated electrical conductor resistant to saturated potassium (850 C) and mercury (538 C) vapors. Conductivity measurements were conducted at high temperature (538 C) and (850 C) on clad conductors. Several attempts to fabricate electrical test capsules for mercury and potassium exposure were partially successful. Nickel clad silver coils of a No. 8 wire size were successfully coated with several different ...

AEROSPACE ELECTRICAL DIVISION, ALKALI METAL RESISTANT WIRE 15 AUG 1963 87 pages
Authors:  E. S. Bober; W. H. Snavely; R. E. Stapleton; WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP LIMA OH
The full text of this report is available for sale. The program is directed toward the development of an insulated electrical conductor resistant to saturated potassium (850 C) and mercury (538 C) vapors. Some forty-seven exposure tests were initiated during the period and the test results indicated high purity alumina, magnesia, boron nitride, aluminum nitride and beryllia as well as Oxalloy 28, a stainless steel clad copper core conductor, were resistant to both environments. The fusion coating technique is the ...

DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH TEMPERATURE ALKALI METAL RESISTANT INSULATED WIRE 15 MAY 1963 27 pages
Authors:  WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP LIMA OH
The full text of this report is available for sale. The program effort is directed toward the development of an insulated electrical conductor resistant to saturated potassium (850 C) and mercury (538 C) vapors. Surveys of candidate insulators, conductors and coating methods are substantially completed. Exposure of a number of candidate insulators, uninsulated conductors, and metal-ceramic seals in potassium and mercury vapor were initiated to provide preliminary corrosion data. The mercury vapor exposure tests are completed. Evaluation of a number ...
