We have shown the principles on which is based the Electrostatic Force Microscopy and the expected peffomances. Basing on experimental data we have seen how to interpret the contrasts observed in the experiments. Then we have shown typical observations on semiconductors. We can say that the EFM is now an established method to explore local properties of semiconductor materials structures and devices but the field can be widened by new ...

The exciton binding energy is large (25-27 meV) in bulk GaN. The coupling with the electromagnetic is large too. Together with a collegue I predicted a Rabbi oscillation splitting of some 45 meV in GaN based microcavities.

We wish to report here that 1,4-disilapentane (1, H3-SiCH2CH2SiH2Me), a highly functionalized carbosilane monomer, can directly serve as a ceramic precursor. The titanium-catalyzed dehydropolymerization gives rise to preceramic oligomers and polymers with a tunable degree of condensation. Whatever the molecular weight of the ceramic precursor, pyrolysis in the presence of titanium catalyst gives high yields of silicon carbide residue.

|
A knowledge of the parameters which govern crack propagation namely, critical stress intensity factor K(ic), and fracture surface energy gamma, is essential to the understanding of the mechanical behavior of solid materials. In the case of wet SiO2 gels, these parameters have only seldom been measured due to great experimental difficulties. The modulus of rupture (MOR) of SiO2 wet gels was measured by other authors but no determinations of K(ic) ...

Zirconia (ZrO2) and hafnia (HfO2) were obtained by reactive thermal evaporation with a high deposition rate. Films physical properties were investigated. The layers were deposited onto nickel and also onto NiCoCrAlY-nickel substrates. It was found that this plug layer enhances both oxide adherence and its dielectrical properties, yielding interesting electrical insulation. Elsewhere, X-rays patterns displayed polycrystalline structure. These ceramics were applied in thermal sensors and could be used as corrosion-resistant ...

Ultrasonic irradiation of mixtures of alkoxides and water (the sonocatalytic method) was shown to provide an interesting way of preparing matrices for ceramic-ceramic composites. The gelation speed of the sonogels can be sufficiently controlled to avoid the segregation of short Al2O3 or ZrO2 fibres used as fillers. High homogeneity dispersions were produced in this way and the density of samples increased. In the case of cordierite, 5 SiO2, Al2O3, 2MgO ...

Various methods of obtaining fine colloidal precipitates of cadmium sulfo-selenides in SiO2 gel matrices are described. These materials, which are of interest in optoelectronic applications, can be prepared by diffusion of various reactants in wet gels. The influence of different preparative parameters on the diffusion characteristics the possibility of obtaining distribution gradients and, in particular, the interest of sonocatalysis (ultrasonic irradiation) are briefly presented.

Aluminum titanate has a near zero thermal expansion coefficient (alpha=0.000008/C) in the range 20 to 1000 C, nevertheless it decomposes below 1200 C. The thermal stabilization of Al2TiO5 without altering its thermal expansion has been considered by partial substitution in the structure compound of Al(3+) ions by Fe(3+) ions. The solid solutions prepared by solid state reaction are in agreement with the general formula Al(1-x)2Fe(2x)TiO5 (0

Much work has been carried out concerning the preparation and study of tin (IV) oxide, alone and combined with other oxides, for application related to electrical and catalytic properties. It has been noticed that the properties related to this oxide depend on the texture of the material. For this reason the sol-gel procedure was used to prepare such a compound. Study of these gels has shown that there is a ...

The polarized-reflectivity spectra of aluminum phosphate has been investigated in great detail with respect to the effects of finite off-normal- incidence angle. An unambiguous identification of the extra structure, which manifests itself at 525 /cm in the gamma2(p) or transverse-magnetic (TM) configuration, has been made. It comes from a strong gamma3 mode, of which the LO component couples to the light for nonzero values of the angle of incidence. This ...

This toxicological research report addresses lethal concentrations of heavy metals in tissue of earthworms. We have presented the work in progress in the first interim report to improve 1) ecotoxicological test, 2) field procedures and 3) standardization of analysis. This second interim report deals mostly with toxicity tests because the point (3) is now in order and the work in field was impossible during the last dry season. Nevertheless, analysis ...

The objective of this phase of Toxicological research on Lethal Concentrations of Heavy Metals in Tissue of Earthworms is to improve both ecotoxicological test in a chemically defined medium and a procedure of bioavailability study in field. In this first period we worked on breeding stock of earthworms (species Eisenia fetida andrei) in decomposing manure heaps to increase them and make them grow. We also installed two chambers with thermostats ...
