The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The fracture of any material may be separated into (at least) two stages. Authors:  Alan R. Pittaway; MIDWEST RESEARCH INST KANSAS CITY MO
The full text of this report is available for sale. This program is concerned with determining the effect of particle size, aerosol concentration, vapor pressure, temperature, pressure, flammability limits and type of ignition source on the combustibility of a 3-component aerosol system. The system is composed of a liquid dispersed in a mixture of air and detonation product gases from explosives. The report gives an analysis of the combustion (flashing) of aerosols associ ated with explosive dissemination of liquids, along ...

A Bibliographic Survey of Automobile and Aircraft Wheel Shimmy DEC 1951
Authors:  Max Dengler; Martin Goland; Georg Herrman; MIDWEST RESEARCH INST KANSAS CITY MO
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A literature survey, including 314 references, is presented for the fields of automobile and airplane wheel shimmy. The coverage is believed to be relatively complete insofar as the available, published world-wide literature is concerned. In addition to the bibliographic listings, a short review and appraisal of the contents of each reference is given. The report contains indices according to subject, author and nationality of the contributions; the periodical coverage of ...

Design Information for Construction of Light Personnel Armor. 31 AUG 1950 122 pages
Authors:  Willard R. Beye; MIDWEST RESEARCH INST KANSAS CITY MO
The full text of this report is available for sale. The work accomplished under the first two contracts was concerned with the type of failure induced by overmatching fragment simulators, i.e., those having a diameter greater than the thickness of the armor, as this was considered the most severe condition to which the armor would be exposed. It was then desired to complete the picture by showing the abilities of armor materials to resist penetration by undermatching fragments, which may ...

Study of the Behavior of Light Personnel Armor Consisting of Metallic, or a Combination of Fibrous and Metallic Materials. 31 OCT 1949
Authors:  W. R. Beye; MIDWEST RESEARCH INST KANSAS CITY MO
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. This study includes the effects of various fragment nose shapes, angles of incidence, higher velocities and smaller fragments. It was found that the previously developed formula for predicting light armor performance remains valid over the extended range of conditions for most of the materials studied. It is shown that the original formula can be modified to enable a designer to account for the effect of angle of incidence for metallic ...

The Development of Equipment and Methods for Studying the Dynamics of the Performance of Light Armor Consisting of Fibrous or a Combination of Fibrous and Metallic Materials. 20 AUG 1948
Authors:  MIDWEST RESEARCH INST KANSAS CITY MO
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Investigations of the performance of single plates of aluminum and steel wre undertaken from which an empirical method was derived for evaluating performance on the basis of several static and dynamic tests. For the case of over-matching projectiles and the range of tests investigated, the method gives results which are in reasonable agreement with experimental measurements. The testing of single aluminum plates enclosed in nylon duck sacks of from two ...
