|
 | In order to provide computationally affordable predictive control algorithms, predictive switching logic schemes are considered whereby a feedback-gain is switched-on at any time from a family of candidate feedback-gains so as to control a discrete-time input-saturated LTI system possibly subject to persistent bounded disturbances of unknown arbitrary magnitude. It is constructively shown that such schemes do exist which ensure, along with good tracking performance, global asymptotic and semi-global exponential stability ... |

 | Two 3D CFD solvers for internal flow applications are briefly presented and applied for the investigation of heat transfer problems in gas turbine components. The numerical approaches considered are respectively based on a structured (XFLOS) and on an unstructured (HybFlow) methods. The two solvers are briefly described in terms of discretization scheme and turbulence modelling features for gas-turbine applications. Information are also provided concerning the unsteady approach, the multi-blok extension ... |

 | The paper deals with modulation on the echo signal generated by rotating machinery of an air target. An extensive measurement campaign has been carried out by means of an Air Traffic Control radar and some preliminary results are presented. The problem of target spectra characterization and exploitation for detection enhancement and target identification, is considered in relation with the limitation imposed by the present radar features. Some considerations regarding the ... |

 | Calculations performed by means of a Monte Carlo method show that the contribution of forward single and multiple scattering to the received power in an optical transmission link through a turbid atmosphere increases when the scattering medium is more concentrated near the receiver. An experimental check of this result is also presented. (Author) |

|
 | This paper presents, firstly, a brief review of some recent works by the authors on probabilistic limit analysis, and in particular the two theorems that allow to bound the probability of collapse of a structure (or earthwork) when the acting forces are given, respectively through the kinematic and static (or equilibrium) approach, i.e. thorugh considerations of possible modes of failure (or collapse mechanisms) and equilibrated stress fields. Recognized that the ... |

| Authors:

|
 | The theory of boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations almost exclusively included, until a few years ago, problems with side conditions assigned over a compact interval of the idependent variable. By contrast, problems involving the behavior of solutions over non compact intervals were usually labelled as asymptotic. Recent developments of the theory show a tendency to reduce more and more this traditionally accepted distinction. The report gives an account ... |

 | The solar orientation of Talorchestia martensii Weber was investigated. The mechanism of solar orientation shows particular time variations of its correctness, due to the local astronomic circumstances. Animals tested immediately after collection, after having been kept under a normal artificial rhythm of light-darkness, or kept segregated in continuous darkness, showed systematic differences from the correct orientation. The existence of an innate correct directional tendency is confirmed in littoral Amphipods. The ... |

 | The solid and liquid state steric configurations of several bis-(N-alkylsalicylaldimino)-nickel (II) complexes were examined spectrophotometrically and by magnetic and dielectric polarization measurements. It was found that the n-propyl derivatives are planar, the t-butyl derivatives pseudo-tetrahedral, and the secalkyl derivatives either planar or pseudo-tetrahedral. Thermochemical, electronic, and steric implications are discussed. R-N-salicylaldimine-cobalt(III) complexes were found to exist in the trans-octahedral configuration only. |

 | Theoretical and experimental results are reported, obtained with a solid-state laser consisting of many active elements in series. A statistical treatment is developed to derive the oscillation conditions. Asymptotic expressions are given of the threshold gain per unit length holding either for a very large number of elements or for inner surface reflectivities close to 1. It turns out that lossless reflections at the inner surfaces can increase the cavity ... |

 | The theoretical range distributions of the meteor echoes due to Perseids shower are calculated for four sets of values of the parameters and we compare them in order to establish the influences yielded by a variation of these parameters in the final results. Then a rough comparison is also done between theoretical and experimental range distributions to determine the theoretical range distribution which better fits the experimental data. (Author) |

Remarkable differences are found between sporadic and shower meteors and between different showers, so that it is probable that meteors differ considerably one from another also by origin, shape and composition. Almost the half of sporadic meteors results compact stone with a density Rho 3.38 g/cc; out of the others, ... |
