Authors:  S. B. Batdorf; R. W. C. Ko; CALIFORNIA UNIV LOS ANGELES
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A number of authors have employed shear lag theory to find the stress distribution near cracks in a uniaxially reinforced composite. Practical application of these equations has been hampered by the fact that they include a parameter h/d, the magnitude of which is unknown. This parameter is evaluated for composites in which the fibers form a rectangular array. (author)

High Noble Metal Concentrations in a Late Pliocene Sediment 30 JUL 81
Authors:  F. T. Kyte; Z. Zhou; J. T. Wasson; CALIFORNIA UNIV LOS ANGELES
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A 2.3-Myr-old layer in a sediment from the Antarctic Ocean contains Ir and Au at levels comparable with those at the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary. A sizable fraction of the noble metals is contained in vesicular, millimetre-sized polymineralic grains that closely resemble ablation debris from chondritic meteorites, and there is little doubt that the noble metals resulted from the accretion of a large extraterrestrial object. No massive extinctions or other evidence of ...

Advances in Filtering Techniques for Stochastic Systems with Uncertain Parameters. Part I. 1978
Authors:  Calvin Chris Schneider Jr; CALIFORNIA UNIV LOS ANGELES
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Optimum estimation of the states of linear dynamic processes using noise corrupted measurements, commonly referred to as Kalman filtering, requires an exact knowledge of the equations which govern the complete stochastic system. In practical applications, however, these equations depend on parameters which can not be precisely defined. When the parameter uncertainties are sufficiently large, standard filtering techniques can produce inaccurate and inadequate estimates. In this dissertation, two alternative techniques of ...
