A layered communications architecture is advocated for the military's Global Communications Grid (GCG) or Global Grid (GG), the communications infrastructure of the Global Information Grid (GIG). A seven-layer reference model consisting of Mission, Application, Service, Transport, Network, Link, and Physical Layers is introduced; the GG corresponds to the Transport and Network Layers. The fundamental concept for military interoperability inherent in the GG architecture, viz., network-centricity, is explained. The importance of ...
Background on Link 16, global air traffic management (GATM), and the joint tactical radio system (JTRS) is provided. Information addressing the ability of: 1) Link 16 to handle evolving civil aviation data link (CADL) waveforms; 2) a single data link to satisfy Air Force GATM requirements; and 3) JTRS to incorporate data links of interest to aviation is offered. Relationships with layered communication architectures, the Global Grid, and software programmable ...
Differential scanning calorimetry and x-ray diffraction analysis were utilized to monitor solid state reactions in mechanically deformed ni/ti multilayered composites. solid state reactions at temperatures less than approximately 650 k result in the formation of a highly disordered phase which is apparently amorphous. the subsequent nucleation and growth at higher temperatures of intermetallic compounds from the amorphous phase is examined. the relatively small thickness of amorphous material (less than 100 ...
As a result of a critical accident at NAD, McAlester, Oklahoma, tests were conducted with obsolete 20 millimeter ammunition furnished from rounds remaining in storage. Tests included bullet impact, drop and chemical analysis for copper azide formation. The results of all tests were negative in establishing any undue sensitivity of the ammunition. Recommendations are made for further tests to help in the preparation of disposal plans for millions of rounds ...
