 | The Navy has 229 hazardous waste landfills that must be treated or capped. Treatment of these wastes is often complicated and expensive due to the wide range of contaminants present. Current technology does not meet the needs for remediating all 229 sites. An alternative to treatment is to design a long- term cover, or cap, for the landfill. Current EPA guidance allows for modifications which may reduce costs and increase ... |

 | Laser surface alloying of a Ti-6Al-4V substrate with carbon can produce structures containing substantial proportions of TiC dendrites in a predominantly martensitic matrix. The TiC contains only small amounts of Al and V. Crack-free alloyed zones can be produced of interest for improving wear resistance. |

 | An investigation is reported of the structures of laser surface- melted zones in a 1C-1.4Cr steel; also some results are presented for a carburized alloy steel and a medium-carbon alloy steel. Treatment was carried out with a CW carbon dioxide laser at a power of 1.7 kW, beams of about 0.4-4.3 mm dia., and traverse speeds of about 8-250 mm/s. Zones of smooth, flat surface profiles were produced with essentially ... |

 | The report presents monthly mean sea surface temperature departures from a 20-year mean (1947 - 1966) over the North Pacific Ocean from 1950 to 1970. In addition, bathythermograph data taken at Ocean Weather Stations VICTOR (35 degrees N, 165 degrees E), PAPA (50 degrees N, 145 degrees W) and NOVEMBER (30 degrees N, 140 degrees W) are presented as monthly and long-term means for the months and years available from ... |
