Development of Novel Repellents Using Structure - Activity Modeling of Compounds in the USDA Archival Database Jan 2011 27 pages
Authors:  Ulrich R Bernier; Maia Tsikolia; AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH SERVICE GAINESVILLE FL CENTER FOR MEDICAL AGRICULTURAL AND VETERINARY ENTOMOLOGY
The full text of this report is available for sale. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has developed repellents and insecticides for the U.S. military since 1942. Repellency and toxicity data for over 30,000 compounds are contained within the USDA archive. Repellency data from subsets of similarly structured compounds were used to develop artificial neural network (ANN) models to predict new compounds for testing. Compounds were then synthesized and evaluated for their repellency against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Rellency data, ...

Novel Carboxamides as Potential Mosquito Repellents Sep 2010
Authors:  ZUOQUAN WANG; Kenneth J Linthicum; Gary G Clark; Alan R Katritzky; Svetoslav Slavov; Maia Tsikolia; C D Hall; Ulrich R Bernier; Dimitar A Dobchev; Natasha M Elejalde; AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH SERVICE GAINESVILLE FL CENTER FOR MEDICAL AGRICULTURAL AND VETERINARY ENTOMOLOGY
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A model was developed using 167 carboxamide derivatives, from the United States Department of Agriculture archival database, that were tested as arthropod repellents over the past 60 yr. An artificial neural network employing CODESSA PRO descriptors was used to construct a quantitative structure-activity relationship model for prediction of novel mosquito repellents. By correlating the structure of these carboxamides with complete protection time, a measure of repellency based on duration, 34 ...

Synthesis and Bioassay of Improved Mosquito Repellents Predicted From Chemical Structure 27-May-2008 7 pages
Authors:  ZUOQUAN WANG; C D Hall; Novruz G Akhmedov; Dimitar Dobchev; Maia Tsikolia; Svetoslav Slavov; Alan R Katritzky; Gary G Clark; Kenneth J Linthicum; Ulrich R Bernier; FLORIDA UNIV GAINESVILLE DEPT OF CHEMISTRY
The full text of this report is available for sale.Mosquito repellency data on acylpiperidines derived from the U.S. Department of Agriculture archives were modeled by using molecular descriptors calculated by CODESSA PRO software. An artificial neural network model was developed for the correlation of these archival results and used to predict the repellent activity of novel compounds of similar structures. A series of 34 promising N-acylpiperidine mosquito repellent candidates (4a-4q') were synthesized by reactions of acylbenzotriazoles 2a-2p with piperidines ...
