TEM Observations of Ti/AlNi/Au Contacts on p-Type 4H-SiC (Preprint) Feb 2010 6 pages
Authors:  James D Scofield; Javier F Baca; Bang-Hung Tsao; Jacob Lawson; AIR FORCE RESEARCH LAB WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OH PROPULSION DIRECTORATE
The full text of this report is available for sale.Improved AlNi-based ohmic contacts to p-type 4H-SiC have been achieved using low energy ion (Al+) implantation, the addition of a thin Ti layer, and a novel two-step implant activation anneal process. AlNi/Au contacts with and without Ti were studied, which resulted in contact resistivities around 1.8x10(exp -4) ohms-sq cm and 2.0x10(exp -3) ohms-sq cm, respectively. Even though these values were higher than those of the Ti/AlNi/W system, which was the ...

High Performance Polymer Film Dielectrics for Air Force Wide-Temperature Power Electronics Applications (Preprint) Feb 2009 19 pages
Authors:  Narayanan Venkat; Victor K McNier; Bang-Hung Tsao; Thuy D Dang; Jennifer N DeCerbo; Jeffery T Stricker; DAYTON UNIV OH RESEARCH INST
The full text of this report is available for sale.Air Force currently has a strong need for the development of compact capacitors which are mechanically robust and thermally stable for operation in a variety of aerospace power conditioning applications. These applications demand better reliability and flexibility in the power system design as well as decreased thermal load for electronic system cooling. While power conditioning capacitors typically use polycarbonate (PC) dielectric films in wound capacitors for operation from -55 deg ...

High Temperature Polymer Film Dielectrics for Aerospace Power Conditioning Capacitor Applications Oct 2008 8 pages
Authors:  Narayanan Venkat; Zongwu Bai; Victor K McNier; Bang-Hung Tsao; Thuy D Dang; Jennifer N DeCerbo; Jeffery T Stricker; DAYTON UNIV RESEARCH INST (URDI) OH
The full text of this report is available for sale.Polymer dielectrics are the preferred materials of choice for capacitive energy-storage applications because of their potential for high dielectric breakdown strengths, low dissipation factors and good dielectric stability over a wide range of frequencies and temperatures, despite having inherently lower dielectric constants relative to ceramic dielectrics. They are also amenable to large area processing into films at a relatively lower cost. Air Force currently has a strong need for the ...

Power and Thermal Technology for Air and Space-Scientific Research Program Delivery Order 0003: Electrical Technology Component Development Mar 2007 67 pages
Authors:  Bang-Hung Tsao; Jacob Lawson; DAYTON UNIV OH RESEARCH INST
The full text of this report is available for sale. The goals of this delivery order were to study and develop materials, processes, and techniques for use in the fabrication of high-performance power electronic devices used in power management and control equipment and systems, which will be capable of operating in extreme environments in aircraft and on space platforms.
