In this paper, ASTM A543B high strength steel plates were subjected to tests of weldability, stress relief cracking, and fracture toughness for applications to containment vessels for pressurized water reactors. Test results were fully satisfactory in the quenched and tempered conditions and in the postweld heat treated condition.
