Based on the results obtained a new condition for efficient charge transfer is proposed and reactions leading to formation of stratospheric ions with m/z=60, 78, and 98 are identified. A Nuclide 12-90-G mass spectrometer has been modified for potential use as an ion photofragment momentum spectrometer. It is demonstrated to have the capability of resolving vibrational structure in the momentum distribution of NO(+) produced by photodissociation of N2O(+) with a detector slit width of 0.25 mm.
