Crack Growth Resistance of Ceramic Composite 93
Authors:  Seijiro Hayashi; H. Baba; A. Suzuki; ISHIKAWAJIMA-HARIMA HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO LTD TOKYO (JAPAN)**
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Fracture process zone in SiC(w)/Si3N4 ceramic composite was studied by a hybrid experimental-numerical analysis employing moire interferometry and finite element analysis. A chevron-notched, wedge-loaded double cantilever beam specimen was used to obtain a stable crack growth. The relation between crack closure stress and crack opening displacement which govern fracture process zone was obtained.

Particle Impact Damage in Silicon Carbide 91
Authors:  A. Suzuki; T. Natsumura; S. Sugiyama; T. Teramae; S. Hamada; ISHIKAWAJIMA-HARIMA HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO LTD TOKYO (JAPAN)**
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The impact damage that occurred in silicon carbide plates was investigated by projectile impact tests. Target plates of silicon carbide with two different thicknesses were impacted by three kinds of projectiles with various speeds ranging from 30 m/s to 500 m/s. Projectiles were 5 mm(phi) and 3 mm(phi) steel spheres and 5 mm(phi) silicon carbide spheres. Various mode of damage were observed such as indentation concave, ring and cone cracks, ...

Properties of a Beta-Type Ti-22V-4Al Alloy, NOV 1986
Authors:  Y. Ohtakara; M. Imamura; A. Suzuki
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A new metastable beta titanium alloy (Ti-22V-4Al) has been developed to improve the cold workability. The as solution-treated alloy was found to be a relatively soft beta alloy with 74 kg/sq mm of tensile strength and 62% of reduction in area. After aging at 475 C for 4 hours, the maximum tensile strength, 112 kg/sq mm, was obtained with reduction in area, 32%. These values were comparable with the conventional ...

Characteristics of a Large Iron-Base Heat Resistant Alloy Rotor Forging, OCT 1986
Authors:  M. Kohno; T. Honjo; S. Kinoshita; A. Suzuki
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A modified SUH660 large rotor forging from a 16 ton ESR ingot was manufactured and it's properties were investigated. The tensile properties at each location and direction satisfied SUH660 specifications and differences due to location and direction were rather small. The creep rupture strength of the large rotor forging is comparable to that of the small size forging reported previously. From the results of low-cycle fatigue tests at surface and ...

Mechanical Properties of Alloy A286 at Cryogenic Temperature, DEC 1985
Authors:  M. Kohno; T. Moriyama; M. Shimada; A. Suzuki
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The strength and the toughness of Fe-base superalloy A286, which has been used as the structural material in cryogenic environments, were investigated at temperature range from room temperature to 4.2K by comparing with stainless steel SUS 304LN and Ni-base superalloy Inconel 718. The influence of grain size on mechanial properties of alloy A286 was also discussed. The temperature dependence of the strength and toughness of alloy A286 was smaller than ...

Mechanical Properties of Vacuum Carbon-Deoxidized Thick-Wall 2-1/4Cr-1Mo Steel Forging JAN 82
Authors:  M. Kohno; M. Makioka; S. Kinoshita; A. Suzuki; KOBE STEEL LTD (JAPAN)*
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The effect of postweld heat treatment on the susceptibility to temper embrittlement of 2.25Cr-1Mo steel forgings which have various silicon contents has been investigated. Then, to verify the validity of low-silicon 2.25Cr-1Mo steel for an actual forging, the mechanical properties and the susceptibility to temper embrittlement of a 296-mm-thick forged ring made from a 100-ton ingot with silicon content reduced to below 0.10 percent by the vacuum carbon deoxidation (VCD) ...

Contribution of Amorphous Material to Properties of a Laboratory-Prepared Soil AUG 1980
Authors:  R. N. Yong; A. J. Seth; A. Suzuki; MCGILL UNIV MONTREAL (QUEBEC)
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The presence and the importance of amorphous material are becoming recognized in sensitive soils and have been documented in previous studies. In order to further appreciate the specific contributions and influences of the varying composition of amorphous material to a sensitive soil, it is necessary to obtain a soil system where the individual components can be rigorously controlled and subjected to proper scrutiny. To achieve this, the laboratory-prepared soils were ...

Contribution of Amorphous Material to Properties of a Laboratory-Prepared Sensitive Clay SEP 1979
Authors:  R. N. Yong; A. J. Sethi; A. Suzuki; MCGILL UNIV MONTREAL (QUEBEC)
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.In order to fully appreciate the specific contributions and influences of the varying composition of amorphous material to a sensitive soil, it is necessary to obtain a soil system where the individual components can be rigorously controlled and subjected to proper scrutiny. To achieve this, the laboratory-prepared sensitive clays were obtained by mixing synthesized amorphous iron-silicone mixed hydroxides of varying composition with silt size particles of primary minerals such as ...

FRACTURE TOUGHNESS OF TURBINE ROTOR MATERIAL AROUND ROOM TEMPERATURE AND VALIDITY CRITERION FOR PLANE STRAIN FRACTURE TOUGHNESS
Authors:  H. Kikuchi; A. Suzuki; M. Aoki; K. Ikeda
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.the plane strain fracture toughness of 2.8% ni-cr-mo-v steels was evaluated at the lowest service temperature (around room temperature) using huge size specimen with 345 mm in thickness and 920 mm in diameter, probably the largest fracture toughness specimen ever tested in the world. the validity criterion for k(sub ic) has been investigated by using various sizes of compact tension specimens.
