Effect of Tm3+-Induced Defects on the Photoexcitation Energy Relaxation in Tm-Doped AlxGa1-xN 27 Mar 2009 5 pages
Authors:  Y D Glinka; H O Everitt; D S Lee; A J Steckl; NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES KIEV (UKRAINE) INST OF PHYSICS
The full text of this report is available for sale.We provide evidence that the Tm3+-induced defects in Tm-doped AlxGa1-xN hosts play a major role in the nonradiative transfer of the excitation energy from the 1I6 state to the 1D2 state of Tm3+ ions from which the most efficient photoluminescence PL transition 465 nm occurs. Once the concentration of the Tm3+-induced defects decreases with increasing x, the PL transitions starting from the 1I6 state 298, 357, 395, 530, and 785 ...

Chirality of Sulforhodamine Dye Molecules Incorporated in DNA Thin Films 13-Nov-2008 4 pages
Authors:  A J Steckl; H Spaeth; K SINGH; J Grote; R Naik; CINCINNATI UNIV OH NANOELECTRONICS LAB
The full text of this report is available for sale.Thin films formed from salmon sperm DNA reacted with a cationic surfactant (CTMA-Cl) included up to 25 wt % fluorescent molecule sulforhodamine (SRh). SRh effect on DNA chirality and vice versa was investigated by circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. The CD signals at 250-265 nm indicate that DNA chirality was maintained or enhanced. Induced CD (iCD) signal at 580-610 nm indicates that SRh is chiral in DNA/CTMA. iCD signal from both ...

Ultra-Sensitive Biological Detection via Nanoparticle-Based Magnetically Amplified Surface Plasmon Resonance (Mag-SPR) Techniques 08-Oct-2008 61 pages
Authors:  Jinwoo Cheon; Donghoon Choi; Kunhong Lee; Jong Kim; A P Alivisatos; A J Steckl; Sang-gi Lee; H T Hahn; YONSEI UNIV SEOUL (REPUBLIC OF KOREA)
The full text of this report is available for sale. The report contains final reports from four separate projects co-funded by AFOSR/AOARD and Korean MEST. The four projects were (1) Ultra-Sensitive Biological Detection via Nanoparticle-Based Magnetically Amplified Surface Plasmon Resonance (Mag-SPR) Techniques; (2) Electronic, Photonic and Magnetic Properties of Natural and Modified DNA Complexes with Heavy Metals Ions; (3) Hierarchical Carbon Fiber Composites; and (4) Distributed Detection of Attacks/Intrusions and Prevention of Resource-Starvation Attacks in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks.
