Its ED50 of .000000068M is similar to that of chloroquine, for Camp/Malay strain of Plasmodium falciparum, a chloroquine-sensitive, pyrimethamine-resistant strain. Morphologically its maximal effect is on the ring and later trophozoite form. Polyamine analyses revealed a perturbation pattern unlike that produced by ornithine decarboxylase inhibitors such as difluoromethylornithine (DFMO). DFMO results in depressed putrescine and spermidine levels with no consistent trend in spermine levels. ...
