AN APPLICATION OF CLUSTER DETECTION TO TEXT AND PICTURE PROCESSING. JUN 1968
Authors:  Azriel Rosenfeld; Han K. Huang; Victor H. Schneider; MARYLAND UNIV COLLEGE PARK COMPUTER SCIENCE CENTER
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.'Syntactic' information about a corpus of linguistic or pictorial data can be 'discovered' by analyzing the statistics of the data. Given a corpus of text, one can measure the tendencies of pairs of words to occur in common contexts, and use these measurements to define clusters of words. Applied to Basic English text, this procedure yields clusters which correspond very closely to the traditional 'parts of speech' (nouns, verbs, articles, ...

PICTURE PROCESSING BY COMPUTER. JUN 1968
Authors:  Azriel Rosenfeld; MARYLAND UNIV COLLEGE PARK COMPUTER SCIENCE CENTER
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The field of picture processing by computer is reviewed from a technique-oriented standpoint. Only the processing of given pictures (as opposed to computer-synthesized pictures) is considered. Specific areas covered include: (a) Pictures as information sources and their efficient encoding; (b) Approximation of pictures - sampling and quantization techniques; (c) Position-invariant operations on pictures and their implementation (digital, electro-optical, optical); applications to matched filtering (template matching), spatial frequency filtering and image ...

A STUDY OF DISCRETE PROPAGATION-BASED MODELS FOR PICTORIAL PATTERN ANALYSIS. 30 JUN 1967
Authors:  Azriel Rosenfeld; John L. Pfaltz; Haig Kafafian; KAFAFIAN (HAIG) ASSOCIATES WASHINGTON D C
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. This report describes algorithms for computing various functions on a digital picture which depend on the distance to a given subset of the picture. The algorithms involve local operations which are performed repeatedly, 'in parallel,' on every picture element and its immediate neighbors. Applications to the detection of 'clusters' and 'regularities' in a picture, and to the dissection of a region into 'pieces,' are also described. The medial axis transforms ...
