Rapid, High-Resolution Scanning of Flat and Curved Regions for Gated Optical Imaging 31 MAR 1998 19 pages
Authors:  Mark Bashkansky; Michael Duncan; John Reintjes; DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY WASHINGTON DC
The full text of this report is available for sale.A scanning system for scanning in first and second dimensions a desired surface topology of a sample, the scanning device comprising: a light source for producing a collimated light beam; a first scanning device responsive to the collimated light beam from the light source for producing a first scanned beam in a first dimension with a constant optical path length; and a second scanning device coupled between the first scanning ...

Subsurface Defect Detection in Ceramic Materials Using Optical Gating Techniques, APR 1996
Authors:  Philip R. Battle; Mark Bashkansky; R. Mahon; John Reintjes
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.We demonstrate the use of optical gating techniques for determining the size and location of defects in advanced ceramic materials. The subsurface region in a bearing-grade silicon nitride ceramic material is probed using an optical gate based on broadband Raman scattering. Experimental results indicate that the size and distribution of small subsurface defects can be determined. (Author).

A Narrow-Bandwidth Unstable Resonator Laser Cavity. 16 OCT 1990
Authors:  John Cooper; John Reintjes; Lawrence Tankesley; James L. Dexter; DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY WASHINGTON DC
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.An unstable resonator laser cavity providing high power radiation with diffraction-limited divergence and narrow-bandwidth comprise a gain medium for generating and amplifying laser radiation optically coupled to a reflector via a frequency narrowing element for providing feedback and bandwidth-narrowing of the laser radiation travelling between the gain medium and the reflector. A telescopic ring is optically coupled to the gain medium opposing the reflector. The telescopic ring comprises: a polarized ...
