Inhibition Effects on Extinction of Polymer Burning, APR 1978
Authors:  W. J. Pitz ; R. F. Sawyer; CALIFORNIA UNIV BERKELEY DEPT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Flame retardants inhibitors were added to both gaseous oxidizer and the solid fuel to study flame extinction limits. Extinction data were obtained for polyethylene (PE) and poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) in N2/O2 mixtures. These data are compared to extinction measurements of polyethylene with an N2/O2/HC1 mixture. Poly(viryl chloride) differs chemically from polyethylene only by a substitution of a chlorine atom for a hydrogen atom in the monomer. With the inclusion ...

Deflection Mapping in the Study of Polymer Burning, 18 APR 1977
Authors:  W. J. Pitz ; R. F. Sawyer
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The opposed flow diffusion flame has proven a useful laboratory tool for the study of the combustion of both liquids and solids. Quantitative determinations of burning rates, extinction limits, mass transfer numbers, polymer thermal diffusivity, and flame structures have been obtained under well-controlled and reproduceable conditions. The temperature and composition structure of the flame is of particular interest as detailed knowledge should yield a better understanding of the mechanisms of ...
