The alloys exhibit significant transient oxidation but following this period oxidize at rates which are similar to those for A1203-forming systems. It is shown that platinum improves the oxidation resistance of aluminide coatings by inhibiting the cracking and spalling of the alpha-Al(sub 2)O(sub 3) scales.
