(DURIP 97) Vacuum Equipment for Ultra High Power Microwave Experiments 22 APR 1999 13 pages
Authors:  John A. Nation; CORNELL UNIV ITHACA NY
The full text of this report is available for sale. The high vacuum insulator system we obtained did not eliminate the pulse shortening previously observed. However we did eliminate the pulse shortening, albeit with serendipity leading the way. In this case we found no pulse shortening even at 85 MW with poor vacuum. It is worth special note that the 85 MW was achieved at an rf conversion efficiency of 55%. we will now push this limit until we do ...

High Energy Pulsed Microwave Sources 26 JAN 95 31 pages
Authors:  John A. Nation; CORNELL UNIV ITHACA NY
The full text of this report is available for sale. The work summarized in this report covers research carried out at Cornell University during the period 2/01/93 to 10/31/94. During this period our research focused on the generation of ultra high power microwave signals, especially on the elimination of sidebands from the amplifiers used, and in the latter period on the possibility of developing a tuneable high power amplifier. In this report we summarize both aspects of our program. Details ...

Novel Methods of Acceleration 31 JAN 93 25 pages
Authors:  John A. Nation; CORNELL UNIV ITHACA NY LAB OF PLASMA STUDIES
The full text of this report is available for sale. This report describes work carried out on AFOSR grant number F49620- 92-J-0153DEF during the period February 1 1992 to January 31 1993. The report provides a brief description of the program objectives, summarizes the main accomplishments during the last year and concludes with listings of conferences and refereed publications, which have either been submitted for publications or published during the program year.

Novel Methods of Acceleration 29 JAN 92 28 pages
Authors:  John A. Nation; CORNELL UNIV ITHACA NY DEPT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
The full text of this report is available for sale. This work summarized in this report covers two research topics. The first deals with a feasibility study of the use of induction linac technology for the production of a multistage proton accelerator, while the second deals with the generation and application of intense microwave radiation signal for use in a compact high average current electron accelerator. The induction linac study was motivated by the objective of obtaining a high current ...

Specialized Research Equipment 14 DEC 85 14 pages
Authors:  John A. Nation; CORNELL UNIV ITHACA NY LAB OF PLASMA STUDIES
The full text of this report is available for sale.

Interim Scientific Report for the Induction Linac Program 30 SEP 84
Authors:  John A. Nation; CORNELL UNIV ITHACA NY LAB OF PLASMA STUDIES
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The induction Linac program has been carried out principally using a dedicated Blumlein facility as the pulse power source. As previously described the source feeds a two to one step up autotransformer, which when coupled with a direct electrostatic feed to the anode from the Blumlein, gives a diode voltage of three times the line output voltage. The nominal operating impedance of the system is 21 Ohms. This system has ...

Collective Ion Acceleration. 1980
Authors:  John A. Nation; CORNELL UNIV ITHACA NY LAB OF PLASMA STUDIES
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Work was conducted on the excitation of slow cyclotron and slow space charge waves in a plasma beam. Observations were made when a planar electron beam was propagated through a strip line. The beam was guided by a homogeneous magnetic field and the excitation achieved with a zero frequency pump wave. Both the space charge and cyclotron waves were excited in the 20-30 GHz interaction and the cyclotron wave in ...

AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE MICROWAVE RADIATION EMITTED BY A HIGH CURRENT RELATIVISTIC ELECTRON BEAM, APR 1970
Authors:  John A. Nation; Walter L. Gardner; CORNELL UNIV ITHACA N Y LAB OF PLASMA STUDIES
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The development of a high frequency in a relativistic electron beam, propagating through a drift space, has been studied from measurements of the microwave emission from the beam. The results show that a part of the radiation is emitted from the region close to the beam front and that the intensity of this emission grows in time as it is convected along with the beam. The growth rate is of ...
