Linewidth Narrowing and Purcell Enhancement in Photonic Crystal Cavities on an Er-Doped Silicon Nitride Platform 01 Feb 2010 13 pages
Authors:  Yiyang Gong; Maria Makarova; Selcuk Yerci; Rui Li; Martin J Stevens; Burm Baek; Sae W Nam; Robert H Hadfield; Sander N Dorenbos; Val Zwiller; Jelena Vuckovic; Luca D Negro; STANFORD UNIV CA DEPT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
The full text of this report is available for sale.Light emission at 1.54 mm from an Er-doped amorphous silicon nitride layer coupled to photonic crystal resonators at cryogenic and room temperatures and under varying optical pump powers has been studied. The results demonstrate that small mode volume, high quality factor resonators enhance Er absorption and emission rates at the cavity resonance. Time resolved measurements give 11- to 17-fold Purcell enhancement of spontaneous emission at cryogenic temperatures, and 2.4-fold enhancement ...

High-order Temporal Coherences of Chaotic and Laser Light 18 Jan 2010 10 pages
Authors:  Martin J Stevens; Burm Baek; Eric A Dauler; Andrew J Kerman; Richard J Molnar; Scott A Hamilton; Karl K Berggren; Richard P Mirin; Sae W Nam; MASSACHUSETTS INST OF TECH CAMBRIDGE RESEARCH LAB OF ELECTRONICS
The full text of this report is available for sale.We demonstrate a new approach to measuring high-order temporal coherences that uses a four-element superconducting nanowire single-photon detector. The four independent, interleaved single-photonsensitive elements parse a single spatial mode of an optical beam over dimensions smaller than the minimum diffraction-limited spot size. Integrating this device with four-channel time-tagging electronics to generate multi-start, multi-stop histograms enables measurement of temporal coherences up to fourth order for a continuous range of all associated ...

Correlated Photon-Pair Generation in Reverse Proton-Exchange PPLN Waveguides With Integrated Mode Demultiplexer at 10 GHz Clock 31-Jul-2007 7 pages
Authors:  Yoshihisa Yamamoto; Qiang Zhang; M M Fejer; Xiuping Xie; Hiroki Takesue; Sae W Nam; Carsten Langrock; STANFORD UNIV CA EDWARD L GINZTON LAB OF PHYSICS
The full text of this report is available for sale.We report 10-ps correlated photon pair generation in periodically-poled reverse-proton-exchange lithium niobate waveguides with integrated mode demultiplexer at a wavelength of 1.5-micron and a clock of 10 GHz. Using superconducting single photon detectors, we observed a coincidence to accidental count ratio (CAR) as high as 4000. The developed photon-pair source may find broad application in quantum information systems as well as quantum entanglement experiments.

Quantum Key Distribution with High-Speed Superconducting Single-Photon Detectors May 2007 3 pages
Authors:  Robert H Hadfield; Jonathan L Habif; Lijun Ma; Alan Mink; Xiao Tang; Sae W Nam; NATIONAL INST OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY GAITHERSBURG MD
The full text of this report is available for sale.We explore the potential of high-speed nanowire superconducting single-photon detectors for quantum key distribution in fiber, over long distances (at 1550 nanometers) and at high bit rates (at 850 nanometers).
