Suicides among active duty US Army personnel have been increasing since 2004, surpassing comparable civilian rates in 2008. A number of studies have reported associations between T. /gondit infection and risk of schizophrenia. Most existing studies used small populations and single post-diagnosis specimens. As part of a larger ressearch program we conducted a hypothesis-generating, pilot case-control study of T. gondil antibodies among individuals discharged from the US military with a diagnosis of schizophrenia and multiple pre- and post- diagnosis serum specimens available.
