 | A fast acting valve was designed. A valve motion model was developed. The effects of valve opening and closing time on shock tube performance was determined. Wave shaping was attained by controlling the closing of the valve after initial opening. Driver and valve design trade studies and valve designs were made. Designs were made for automatic loading diaphragm systems. Cryogenic and compressed air driver systems were studied and designed. Heated ... |

 | A wide ranging investigation has been made of the potential of reaction bonded and hot-pressed silicon nitride components in diesel engines. These have ranged from stationary high-thermal stress items such as 'hot plugs' (combustion pre-chamber liners), to dynamic items such as turbocharger rotors. The results of these trials have been sufficiently encouraging to indicate that for the small indirect-injection automotive type of engine there are desirable gains to be had ... |
