The binary phase diagram for the 1,3,3,trinitroazetidine (TNAZ)/ 2,4, 6,trinitrotoluene (TNT) system has been predicted computationally by using the measured heats of fusion and melting points associated with the individual components. Experimentally, it has been demonstrated that mixtures of TNAZ and TNT exhibit the thermal characteristics associated with a simple binary eutectic system affected by polymorphism that is attributed to both components. Heat of fusion data from the mixtures are ...
The synthesis of the title compound, TNDAZ, in four steps by starting with N-t-Butyl-3(hydroxymethyl)-3-nitroazetidine is described. The structures of TNDAZ and of a precursor, N-t-Butyl-3-nitro-3-(N-t-butyl-3'-nitroazetidin-3'-yl) azetidine have been established unequivocally via application of single crystal X-ray crystallographic techniques. Thermal properties of TNDAZ, alone and in admixture with 1, 3,3-trinitroazetidine (TNAZ), are presented. In particular, a binary phase diagram has been predicted computationally and confirmed experimentally using the techniques of differential ...
Two types of nitroguanidine (NQ), high bulk cubical (HBCNQ) and spherical (SNQ), were tested neat and as melt cast formulations with TNT and with RDX. The objective was to characterize both types of NQ with respect to thermal stability, shock sensitivity and performance. Parameters investigated were thermal stability, critical diameter, detonation velocity and pressure, shock sensitivity, and bullet impact. DSC thermograms from neat HBCNQ and SNQ suggest the former is ...
Synthesis of the title compounds from diethyl succinate and from dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate in 16 percent overall yield, respectively, and their bis(ammonium nitrate) salts in 62 and 60 percent yields, respectively, are described. Physical properties and nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared and mass spectral data are presented.
