The report is comprised of two articles: The polymerization of acrylonitrile with titanium tetradimethylamide and related reactions; and Studies on the reactions of tin acetylides with transition metal complexes.
The chemistry of the novel Ti(II) and Ti(III) amides, such as Ti(NMe2)2, Ti(NMe2)3 and (Pi-C5H5)2TiNMe2 is described. Physical properties, including i.r., u.v., n.m.r., e.s.r., and mass spectra have been measured and interpreted structurally. The compounds are highly reactive and provide convenient sources for other d1 and d2 Ti complexes. The polymerisation of acrylonitrile initiated by titanium tetradimethylamide is described and discussed in some detail. A mechanism which adequately accounts for ...
Insertion reactions of some metal (B, Si, Ge, Sn(IV), Ti(IV), Zr(IV), and Hf(IV), amides with nitriles, diketene, crotonaldehyde, lambda-butyrolactone, and propylene sulphide are described along with their reactions with the protic species ethyleneimine, alkynes and pentafluorobenzene. Also discussed is the metathetical exchange reactions with boron trifluoride and with fluorcarbons and some seven co-ordinate manganese(III) complexes. Next a comprehensive summary of earlier work on (a) reactions of organo-sodium and -lithium reagents ...
