(U) THIS PAPER DESCRIBES A COMPACT, LIGHTWEIGHT PROCESSOR SYSTEM CALLED CNAPS WHICH IS CAPABLE OF UP TO 10 BILLION OPERATIONS PER SECOND (GOPS). THE NATURE OF THE ALGORITHM AND UNIQUES FEATURES OF THE CNAPS (BOTH HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE) ARE DISCUSSED IN TERMS OF THE PARALLEL PROGRAMMING EFFORT THAT WAS REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENT THE ALGORITHM. AN EXAMPLE IS GIVEN OF THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM PROCESSING A LONG IMAGE SEQUENCE.
