It was investigated if the pyrolysis of allyl sulfides could be extended to the synthesis of alpha, beta-unsaturated thioketones and aldehydes. The infrared spectrum of the polythioacrolein indicates that it is a mixture of 1,2-and 1,4-units. Polymerization of alpha, beta-unsaturated thioketones is very similar to their hydrocarbon analogs and the introduction of the proper groups in the conjugated system should make their isolation possible.
