We report the infrared spectra of weapons-grade 0-ethyl-S-2-(diisopropylamino)ethyl methylphosphonothiolate in the mid-infrared (4000-550/cm) region. The chemical used in the feedstock was obtained from a ton container and was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to determine its composition. Analysis of the data showed that the spectra were dominated by the volatile impurities in the VX, which were primarily acetone, 1,3-diisopropylcarbodiimide, and diisopropylamine. Concentrations of the compounds ...

The ability of the AIRIS (Physical Sciences, Inc., Andover, MA) standoff sensor to detect chemical agents was examined in a series of laboratory measurements. Agents were passed through a flow cell, which was viewed against a blackbody that defined the thermal background. The cell was translated through the sensor's Held of regard to simulate the impact of cloud motion on detection capability. This experiment used agent column densities and background ...

We measured the vapor-phase absorptivity coefficient of the chemical warfare agent ethyl N,N-dimethylphosphoramidocyanidate (GA) in the mid-infrared (4000-550 cm') at a spectral resolution of 0.125 cm'. The GA used in the feedstock was purified by fractional distillation and analyzed by nuclear magnetic resonance and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry to verify its purity. We describe the experimental method used to acquire the individual spectra that were used to produce the composite spectrum, ...

Previous vapor pressure data for the vesicant chemical warfare (CW) agent 2-chlorovinyl dichloroarsine (Lewisite) was acquired in the 1920s to 1940s, and reported values in the ambient temperature range have varied widely. The generally accepted values for the compound at 20 and 25C were extrapolated from empirical data that were acquired down to only 50C. We have acquired new data in the range of 2 to 24C. By combining these ...
