Constraint-based Hybrid Cellular Automaton Topology Optimization for Advanced Lightweight Blast Resistant Structure Development Nov 2011 44 pages
Authors:  Jr Hofstetter Dwight; Rahul Gupta; Robert Bitting; ARMY RESEARCH LAB ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND MD WEAPONS AND MATERIALS RESEARCH DIRECTORATE
The full text of this report is available for sale.Optimization of blast-resistant structures for combat vehicles allows for maximum protection when constrained by additional weight. Livermore Software Topology and Shape Computations (LS-TaSC) optimization software is a constraint-based hybrid cellular-automaton tool that could be used to design optimum solutions. This software takes into account size, shape, topology, and topometry (changing of element properties on an element-by-element basis). The optimization is achieved by designing for a uniform internal energy density while ...

Dynamic System Response of Truss Panels under High Dynamic Loading through Experimental & Computation Evaluation Dec-2008 10 pages
Authors:  Rahul Gupta; Tyrone L Jones; Matthew Burkins; Haydn Wadley; Yellapu Murty; ARMY RESEARCH LAB ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND MD
The full text of this report is available for sale. The ability of computer simulations to accurately resolve dynamic responses of systems has significantly improved over the last decade. Simulations can now be a trusted source of parametric evaluation of complex systems. DARPA funded a program to investigate the dynamic performance of truss panel systems. Two configurations were computer simulated and their material responses were characterized. This manuscript documents the validity of computer simulation to correlate experimental system failure limits ...

Monitoring the News: A TDT Demonstration System 2001 6 pages
Authors:  David Frey; Rahul Gupta; Vikas Khandelwal; Victor Lavrenko; Anton Leuski; James Allan; MASSACHUSETTS UNIV AMHERST CENTER FOR INTELLIGENT INFORMATION RETRIEVAL
The full text of this report is available for sale.We describe a demonstration system built upon Topic Detection and Tracking (TDT) technology. The demonstration system monitors a stream of news stories, organizes them into clusters that represent topics, presents the clusters to a user, and visually describes the changes that occur in those clusters over time. A user may also mark certain clusters as interesting, so that they can be "tracked" more easily.
