Photoassisted Synthesis of Mixed-Metal Clusters;(PPN)(CoOs3(CO)13), H2RuOs3(CO13, and H2FeOs3(CO)13. 30 MAY 1980
Authors:  Eric W. Burkhardt; Gregory L. Geoffroy; PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIV UNIVERSITY PARK DEPT OF CHEMISTRY
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The utility of photochemical methods for the directed synthesis of mixed-metal clusters has been explored. The condensation of a carbonylmetallate with a closed metal carbonyl trimer has been demonstrated to be a valuable method for the preparation of mixed-metal clusters.

Molecular Dynamics of Mixed-Metal Clusters. (13)C and (1)H NMR Studies of H2FeRu3(CO)13, H2FeRu2Os(CO)13, and H2FeRuOs(CO)13. 25 APR 1980
Authors:  Wayne L. Gladfelter; Gregory L. Geoffroy; PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIV UNIVERSITY PARK DEPT OF CHEMISTRY
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Variable temperature H and carbon 13 NMR spectra of H2FeRu3(CO)13, H2FeRu2Os(CO)13, and H2FeRuOs(CO)13 have been measured and interpreted in view of three distinct fluxional processes. In the lowest temperature process the bridging and terminal carbonyls bound to Fe undergo localized exchange. The second process involves migration of the carbonyls around the face of the tetrahedral cluster that contains the bridging carbonyls. The highest temperature process involves a subtle reorganization of ...

Synthesis and Spectroscopic Characterization of H3CoRu3(CO)12. Crystal and Molecular Structure of the C(3v) Isomer. 20 MAR 1980
Authors:  Wayne L. Gladfelter; Gregory L. Geoffroy; Joseph C. Calabrese; PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIV UNIVERSITY PARK DEPT OF CHEMISTRY
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The reaction of HCoRu3(CO)13 with H2 in refluxing hexane gives the new cluster H3CoRu3(CO)12 in 75% yield. Infrared and H(1) NMR spectra indicate that the cluster exists in two isomeric forms. The structure of one isomer has determined by single-crystal x-ray diffraction. The CoRu3 core of the molecule defines a distorted tetrahedron with three carbonyls terminally bound to each metal atom. The hydride ligands were located by difference Fourier techniques ...

Synthesis of Tetranuclear Mixed-Metal Clusters via the Reaction of Co(CO)4- with Closed Metal Carbonyl Trimers. Crystal and Molecular Structure of (Ph3P)2NCoRu3(CO)13. 03 OCT 1979
Authors:  Paul C. Steinhardt ; Wayne L. Gladfelter ; A. Dale Harley ; Joseph R. Fox ; Gregory L. Geoffroy; PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIV UNIVERSITY PARK DEPT OF CHEMISTRY
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The new clusters HCoRu3 (CO)13, HCoRu2Os(CO)13, HCoRuOs2(CO)13, and HCoOs3(CO)13 have been synthesized by allowing K(Co(CO)4) to react with Ru3(CO)12, Ru2Os(CO)12, RuOs2(CO)12, and Os3(CO)12, respectively, followed by protonation. Reaction of KCo(CO)4 with Fe3(CO)12, Fe2Ru(CO)12, and FeRu2(CO)12 followed by acidification did not lead to the desired hydrido mixed-metal clusters but instead to various other products. Reaction of (PPN) (Co(CO)4) (PPN= (Ph3P)2N) with Fe3(CO)12 and Ru3(CO)12 without subsequent acidification gave the salts (PPN) ...

Mixed-Metal Clusters. 05 FEB 1979
Authors:  Wayne L. Gladfelter; Gregory L. Geoffroy; PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIV UNIVERSITY PARK DEPT OF CHEMISTRY
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. This article is a comprehensive review of the synthesis, properties, reactivity and dynamics of mixed-metal clusters. (Author)

Synthesis and Characterization of the Mixed-Metal Alkylidyne Clusters RCFeCo2(CO)9H (R = CH3, C2H5, C6H5). 29 JUL 1978
Authors:  Ronald A. Epstein; Howard W. Withers; Gregory L. Geoffroy; PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIV UNIVERSITY PARK DEPT OF CHEMISTRY
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Reaction of closed metal carbonyl trimers with carbonylmetalates has been shown to be a useful synthetic route to tetranuclear clusters in which the carbonylmetalate adds to the face of the original trimer. This type of reaction has been particularly useful for the synthesis of mixed-metal clusters. In principle, clusters with more than four framework atoms could be prepared by the addition of carbonylmetalates to the triangular faces of tetranuclear and ...

Separation and Characterization of Ru2Os(CO)12 and RuOs2(CO)12. Experiments Pertaining to the Mechanism of the Cluster Catalyzed Water Gas Shift Reaction. 19 JUL 1978

Synthesis of Tetrahedral Mixed-Metal Clusters of the Iron Triad. Preparation and Characterization of H2FeRu2Os(CO)13 and H2FeRuOs2(CO)13. 24 OCT 1977
Authors:  Gregory L. Geoffroy; Wayne L. Gladfelter; PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIV UNIVERSITY PARK DEPT OF CHEMISTRY
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Transition metal cluster complexes have become a very important class of compounds, principally because of their potential in catalysis. Clusters have been shown to behave as catalysts in their own right and they hold considerable promise for serving as models for catalytic surfaces. Clusters comprised of two or more different transition metals in the cluster framework are particularly interesting in this regard because of possible bimetallic effects. Further, mixed-metal clusters ...
