In support of Military Mine Warfare (MIW) clearance operations for safe vessel passage, analysts perform change detection by visually comparing historical high-resolution sidescan sonar imagery (SSI) with newly collected SSI in an attempt to identify newly placed objects. The objective of MIW change detection is to match objects detected in new SSI with historical objects stored in a database.
