O-Raffinose Crosslinking Substantially Ameliorates the Vasoconstrictive and Nitric-Oxide-Inactivating Effects of Unmodified Human Hemoglobin in the Rat 11 JUL 1997 40 pages
Authors:  W. Lieberthal; R. Fuhro; J. E. Freedman; G. Toolan; J. Loscalzo; NAVAL BLOOD RESEARCH LAB BOSTON MA
The full text of this report is available for sale.We studied the hemodynamic effects of a 20% exchange transfusion with whole blood or highly purified human hemoglobin Ao. We compared the effects of unmodified hemoglobin with o-raffinose crosslinked oligomers of hemoglobin (modified hemoglobin). The unmodified SFH increased systemic vascular resistance (SVR) by approx. 40%, and renal vascular resistance (RVR) by approx. 25%. Cardiac output was markedly reduced (by approx. 20%) and mean arterial pressure (MAP) ...

Decreased Platelet Inhibition by Nitric Oxide in Two Brothers With a History of Arterial Thrombosis 16 SEP 1995 41 pages
Authors:  J. E. Freedman; J. Loscalzo; S. E. Benoit; C. R. Valeri; M. R. Barnard; NAVAL BLOOD RESEARCH LAB BOSTON MA
The full text of this report is available for sale.Highly reactive oxygen species rapidly inactivate nitric oxide (NO), an endothelial product which inhibits platelet activation. We studied platelet inhibition by NO in two brothers with a cerebral thrombotic disorder. Both children had hyperreactive platelets, as determined by whole blood platelet aggregometry and flow cytometric analysis of the platelet surface expression of P-selectin. Mixing experiments showed that the patients' platelets behaved normally in control ...

Description of a Model for Evaluating Operational Performance of Communications systems, JUN 1978
Authors:  J. E. Freedman; ARINC RESEARCH CORP ANNAPOLIS MD
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. This report documents on aeronautical communications operational performance model developed by ARINC Research Corporation in support of the Federal Aviation Administration's AEROSAT program. The model is operationally oriented. Its prime purpose is to serve as a tool for examining the impact of such factors as operational communications requirements and aircraft movements on the operational performance obtained by the user of a given communications system. The model has a generalized structure ...
