Spinning Filter Separation System for Oil Spill Clean-Up Operation 01 SEP 1998
Authors:  John Wehrle; Eugene C. Fischer; William P. Kenney; Joseph F. Korczynski; Thomas D. Gracik; DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY WASHINGTON DC
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.Oil spill polluted water is conducted under pressure in sequence through separator devices to collect and burn a polluted water mixture having its oil concentration increased by extraction of water therefrom during axial flow through the separator devices. Such water extraction is effected by sequential radial outflow through oil flow blocking filter walls of the separator devices in response to rotation thereof.

Spinning Filter Separation System for Oil Spill Clean-Up Operation 11 AUG 1998
Authors:  John Wehrie; Eugene C. Fischer; William P. Kenney; Joseph F. Korczynski; Thomas D. Gracik; DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY WASHINGTON DC

Spinning Filter Separation System for Oil Spill Clean-Up Operation 26 SEP 1996 11 pages
Authors:  John Wehrle; Eugene C. Fischer; William P. Kenney; Joseph F. Korczynski; Thomas D. Gracik; DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY WASHINGTON DC
The full text of this report is available for sale.According to current technology, effective clean up of oil spills from the surface of ocean water is performed by an oil sweeper vessel within which oil contaminated water is collected for transport to remotely located on-shore equipment within which oil separation and disposal is performed. The processing of large quantities of oil polluted ocean water is accordingly time consuming as well as costly. It is therefore an important object of ...

Noise Control Composite. 30 MAY 1995
Authors:  Eugene C. Fischer; Jean A. Montemarano; Vincent J. Castelli; Joseph W. Dickey; DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY WASHINGTON DC
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A composite for use on submarines and surface craft for controlling self-generated noise when listening with sonar. The composite includes two layers of PVF2 transducers separated by a layer of phase shifting or absorbing material. The inner transducer senses noise from the ship and subtracts this from the signal from the outer transducer representing noise plus the desired signal. In a second mode the sensed noise is regenerated through the ...

Retrofittable Monolithic Box Beam Composite Hull System. 10 JAN 1995
Authors:  Eugene C. Fischer; Roger M. Crane; DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY WASHINGTON DC
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A double hull structure includes a controllably crushable stand-off structure for maintaining a separation between inner and outer hulls and may be retrofit onto existing hulls either in modular and/or break-away sections or as a complete 'shoe' enclosing the existing hull. This retrofittable hull is preferably of a non-metallic composite material which reduces or eliminates corrosion of the existing hull, extending the usable lifetime thereof. The controllably crushable stand-off structure ...

Embedded Fiber Optic Beam Displacement Sensor. 11 JUN 1991
Authors:  Roger M. Crane; Eugene C. Fischer; DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY WASHINGTON DC
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. This document discloses a method and apparatus for the two dimensional measurement of displacements of sample materials using a photodetector grid array and optical fiber embedded in the test specimen. The system consists of a light source which is passed into one end of an optical fiber which has embedded a beam specimen, so that when the beam is placed in motion, the light traverses through the fiber and emerges ...

Load Bearing Connective Damper. 04 SEP 1990
Authors:  Eugene C. Fischer; Roger M. Crane; DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY WASHINGTON DC
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A load bearing connective damper for service in tensile, compression, and torsion as a shock and vibration isolation mounting device. Dampers are constructed using a multidimensionally braided textile shape and a visco-elastic material disposed in the interstrand spaces of the textile shape. Patents. (js)
