BRAIN STEM STIMULATION AND ETHOLOGICAL STUDIES ON BIRDS. 31 FEB 1967
Authors:  N. Tinbergen; D. M. Vowles; J. D. Delius; OXFORD UNIV (ENGLAND) DEPT OF ZOOLOGY
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. Methods for raising tame experimental gulls, for long lasting anaesthesia in birds and for implantation of brain electrodes in small animals were developed. 270 brain loci were stimulated and the resulting ouvert behaviour recorded. Extensive data on a dearousal system, on agonistic and body orientation behaviour was obtained and is being related to current behavioural theory. Observational studies of gull behaviour were continued, particularly on sexual and grooming behaviour. Ecological ...

BRAIN STEM STIMULATION AND ETHOLOGICAL STUDIES ON BIRDS. 31 JAN 1965
Authors:  N. Tinbergen; D. M. Vowles; J. D. Delius; OXFORD UNIV (ENGLAND)
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. The work was specifically intended to elucidate further the physiological mechanisms of some particular types of behavior in birds using in combination brain stimulation and observation techniques. Studies were made of the interactions between internal and external stimulation and of the interactions occurring during simultaneous stimulation of two different areas of the brain, which yield either similar or differing types of behavior. The experimental animals have chosen for this work ...

BRAIN STEM STIMULATION AND ETHOLOGICAL STUDIES ON BIRDS. 31 DEC 1963
Authors:  N. Tinbergen; D. M. Vowles; J. D. Delius; OXFORD UNIV (ENGLAND)
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only. This research was conducted to provide detailed descriptions of the birds' behavior and to analyse in greater detail the motivation of various behavioral systems, in order to provide a descriptive and motivational basis by which the behavior of birds in the wild may be compared with that obtained by stimulation techniques. A number of behavioral systems - territorial behavior, pair-bond formation and maintenance, copulation, nest-building, incubation, grooming the body surface ...
