Temperature measurement is becoming increasingly important in the steel industry and for practical reasons most applications require a non-contact approach. This paper introduces a number of technologies and highlights their comparative advantages and disadvantages. The current state of development of each technology is outlined, and where appropriate, examples of their application in the steel industry are presented. (Author).
