Modeling Study to Evaluate the Ionic Mechanism of Soot Formation JUL 94 97 pages
Authors:  H. F. Calcote; D. G. Keil; R. J. Gill; C. H. Berman; AEROCHEM RESEARCH LABS INC PRINCETON NJ
The full text of this report is available for sale.To evaluate the ionic mechanism of soot formation, calculated ion profiles are compared with experimental profiles. The Sandia Flame Code has been modified to accommodate ions. The thermochemical data base on ions has been expanded to accommodate larger ions and additional isomers. Thermochemistry plays a greater role than expected. Good agreement between calculated and experiment is obtained up to ion mass 165, perinaphthalene, by reducing the maximum flame temperature by ...

Modeling Study to Evaluate the Ionic Mechanism of Soot Formation APR 92 37 pages
Authors:  H. F. Calcote; R. J. Gill; C. H. Berman; AEROCHEM RESEARCH LABS INC PRINCETON NJ
The full text of this report is available for sale.It has been demonstrated that in a sooting laboratory flame the time to add a carbon atom to a growing carbon species is about the same, or shorter, for the ionic than for the free radical mechanism. The calculated step time is consistent with the experimentally observed time in the flame to build a soot particle. It has also been demonstrated that, up to about 30 carbon atoms, the thermodynamic ...

INSTABILITY OF A TWO-DIMENSIONAL COMPRESSIBLE JET, JAN 1970
Authors:  C. H. Berman; J. E. Ffowcs Williams; BOEING SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH LABS SEATTLE WASH
The full text of this report is not available and therefore is not for sale. This information is provided for reference purposes only.A linearized analysis of the two-dimensional double vortex sheet model of a jet shows that inviscid jet instabilities occur over a wide range of frequencies at all jet Mach numbers. No particular frequency for maximum growth rate exists unless finite shear layer thickness effects are considered. It is suggested that the model describes the essential characteristics of a real jet disturbed by long wavelength perturbations. The idea is advanced that ...
