The MODTRAN5 radiation transport (RT) model is a major advancement over earlier versions of the MODTRAN atmospheric transmittance and radiance model. The new model's features include the following: (1) finer spectral resolution via the Spectrally Enhanced Resolution MODTRAN (SERTRAN) molecular band model, (2) a fully coupled treatment of auxiliary molecular species, and (3) a rapid and high-fidelity multiple scattering (MS) option. The finer spectral resolution improves model accuracy, especially in ...

Current concepts for the employment of Hyperspectral Imagers (HSI) for surveillance assume nearly ideal atmospheric viewing conditions. In reality clouds and aerosols will be important considerations for military operations. In the presence of optically thick clouds, visible and IR measurements provide virtually no information about what is occurring below the clouds. However, the situation is different for thin cirrus clouds and tenuous aerosol plumes, where energy from the surface is ...

The LOWTRAN computer codes, with LOWTRAN 7 being the most current version, are widely used to calculate atmospheric transmittance and/or radiance in the infrared, visible and near ultraviolet spectral regions; LOWTRAN 7 has been extended to include the microwave spectral region. The code is easily used, runs quickly and provides the user with a wide variety of atmospheric models and options. Its spectral resolution is 20 1/cm Full Width/Half Maximum ...

This interim technical report describes a new band model formulation for the LOWTRAN 6 atmospheric transmittance/radiation computer code. Band model parameters for H2O, CO2, O3, CO, CH4, O2, and N2 were calculated using the 1986 HITRAN line atlas. They were calculated for 1 /cm bins from 0 - 17,900/cm and at five temperatures from 200 to 300K. This transmittance model and associated subroutines have been integrated into LOWTRAN 6. The ...
