This study compared seasonal and longitudinal distributions of more than 8300 equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs) observed during a full solar cycle from 1989 to 2000 with predictions of two simple models. Both models are based on considerations of parameters that influence the linear growth rate of the generalized Rayleigh-Taylor instability in the context of finite windows of opportunity available during the prereversal enhancement near sunset. These parameters are the strength ...

The experiment was concerned with the effects of varied cognitive and perceptual (i.e., monitoring) demands on patterns of physiological responding. Cognitive demands were varied by manipulating the number of letters (1, 3, or 5) comprising a briefly-presented set which the subject was instructed to encode, rehearse, and, 5 sec later, compare to a single test letter. Perceptual demands were varied by presenting the subject with a cue stimulus 5 sec ...

New materials, new fabrication techniques and new device structures for high density magnetic bubble devices were developed. The main focus of the work has been to develop ion implanted contiguous disk devices offering sixteen times the bit density of presently manufactured bubble devices and chip capacities of 64 Mbit. Under this contract the authors developed a computer program for modeling magnetic bubble garnet materials and have applied it to the ...

Syntheses of 1-amino-2-(1-phenyl-2-adamantyl)ethane, (1-phenyl-4- adamantyl)-methylamine and 1-amino-2- 4-(1-adamantylphenyl) ethane and their transformation to the disulfides of the corresponding 2-mercaptoacetamidines are described. 4-Epoxymethyleneprotoadamantane was converted in 2 steps to 2-phenyl- 1-adamantanecarboxylic acid, a precursor for the planned synthesis of (2-phenyl- 1-adamantyl)alkylamines.

This report is divided into four (4) major sections. Each section addresses a phase of the syntheses of adamantyl aryl alkylamines where the amine is incorported into an N-substituted 2-mercaptoacetamidine, or a derivative of the sulfide function. The first part describes the efforts in the 1-aryl-3- adamantyl-methylamine series where the aryl group is 2-thienyl. The next section is devoted to the practical approaches to the synthesis of 1-aryl-2- adamantylalkyl-amines. The ...

S series of N-(3-aryl-1-adamantanemethyl)-alpha-mercaptoacetamidines and derivatives was synthesized. A number of 3-aryl-1-adamantanemethylamines B were synthesized first. These amines would become part of the N-substituent of the amidine function, R'NH-C(=NH)-CH2SY. The specific alpha-mercaptoacetamidines and derivatives, which were prepared, were those in which R=CH3, and SY is S2O3(-) (Bunte Salt), SPO3(-2) and S-S(disulfide); R=OCH3, and SY is SH,S- S(disulfide), SPO3(-2); R=F, and SY is SH, S-S(disulfide), SPO3(-2); as well as R=SCH3, where ...
