Advanced Structures Development for Superconducting Magnets,

Authors: M. B. Kasen; R. E. Schramm; NATIONAL BUREAU OF STANDARDS BOULDER COLO CRYOGENICS DIV
Abstract:
A series of tests have been performed by NBS to determine the effect of cryogenic temperatures on the static mechanical properties of a GY-70/934 graphite-epoxy composite laminate. Results indicate that this material is a viable candidate for cryogenic structural use. The properties obtained with GY- 70/934 are compared to other laminate types evaluated in earlier programs. Procedures for characterizing the mechanical properties of composite laminates at cryogenic temperatures are reviewed. (Author).
