The Physical Chemistry of Solid Oxides.

Authors: M. O'Keeffe; ARIZONA STATE UNIV TEMPE DEPT OF CHEMISTRY
Abstract:
The report presents a very brief summary of research concerned with a more complete understanding of defects and nonstoichiometry in transition metal oxides utilising particularly the techniques of infrared spectroscopy, electrical properties such as Hall and Seebeck effect, thermodynamic and kinetic properties (diffusion) has been obtained. Although very valuable optical data for several oxides were obtained, little direct information about defect properties was derived from this technique. On the other hand the kinetic, thermodynamic and electrical measurements on MnO and FeO in particular led to considerably clarifying the nature of these solids. (Author)
