Effect of Spin on the Aerodynamics of the 20mm Projectile,

Authors: John A. Darling; Joseph Knott; NAVAL ORDNANCE LAB WHITE OAK MD
Abstract:
The effect of spin on the aerodynamics of the 20mm projectile was studied from experimental measurements of static stability, axial force, roll damping, Magnus forces and base-pressure surveys made in the NOL Supersonic Tunnel Numers 1 and 2 over a Mach number range of 0.8 to 5 and at Reynolds numbers high enough to ensure a turbulent wake.
