Abstract:
A TiAl intermetallic was coated with an Al2O3 film using CVD. The protectiveness of the film was investigated by oxidizing the sample in purified oxygen at 1073, 1173 and 1273 K. Mass gains for the oxidized specimens were negligible, and protectiveness was excellent. At 1273 K the film showed spallation indicating limited protection.
