Abstract: The international rare earth conference, IREC 85, was held from 4 through 8 March 1985 in Switzerland. A blend of solid state and solution chemistries was a first for the conference and provided an excellent stage for discussions on the use of rare earths in glasses, ceramics, alloys, and catalysts.
