Abstract:
The analysis of transient signals using classical techniques is frequently not satisfactory. The Fourier analysis is based on stationarity of the signaL and transients are nonstationary. A new technique for the analysis of this type of signal, called the Wavelet Transform, was applied to artificial and real signals. A brief theoretical comparison between the Short Time Fourier Transform and the Wavelet Transform is introduced A multisolution; analysis approach for implementing the transform was used. Computer code for the Discrete Wavelet Transform was implemented. Different types of wavelets to use as basis functions were evaluated. (KAR) P. 2
