Abstract:
The applicaton of a structured approach to modeling computer systems is discussed. Variations to the theories of Dijkstra and Mills are adapted to develop guidelines for structuring complex modeling activities. The structure employs multiple levels and concerns itself with control and interface rules for both hardware and software elements. The concepts of representative modeling, structured programming, and levels of abstraction are incorporated into a method in which control interfaces are prescribed in a logical and flexible manner. The guidelines have been used for a number of simulation projects.
