Abstract:
The objective of the study is to complete the faunistic report on freshwater gastropods. As various genera of clams (Geloina, Corbicula, Pilsbryoconcha) serve as food in Thailand and as metacercariae of several Echinostoma species had been found in these bivalve, a careful study of the bivalve fauna was considered necessary to complete the report on gastropods. As brackish water clams are known to serve as intermediate hosts for Heterophyes (Pirinella) the brackish water snails were added to the study. During the first five months during the dry season, extensive collecting in various rivers of Thailand has been done to compile the collection of bivalves on which this report is based. During the rainy season all coastal areas of Thailand have been visited and a considerable amount of brackish water species have been collected and examined for metacercaria. The remaining specimens for reference collections are partly stored in Bangkok, partly in the US National Museum in Washington. (Author)
