Abstract:
Volumes II and III together give an overview of the state of the art in Computing Complex Turbulent Flows in 1981 using the data base established for this purpose in Volume I. The materials are intended to be complete in the sense of providing all elements necessary for understanding the state of the art. Thus, Volumes II and III include: (i) taxonomies that organize the flows, methods of modeling, numerics; (ii) comments by non-computors (the reporters) on results for each class of flows; (iii) discussions carried through to closure and carefully edited; (iv) samples of recent high-level research computations that are currently beginning to provide information of aid to turbulence modelers; (v) an overall evaluation of the state of the art by a distinguished committee of nine workers in the field; (vi) an opinion by the leading editor on the question of 'universality' of turbulence models, potential roads toward further progress, and discussion thereof by others (vii) all computer output compared with data, case by case; (viii) comments by computer groups on experiences and problems; (ix) several cross indexes to aid readers.
