Abstract:
The primary purpose of this report has been to study the damage resulting to the various components of the Electric Power Distribution System serving the City of San Jose, California, caused by a hypothetical nuclear attack on Moffett Field. Included in this study has been the effects of the detonation of a 5 MT nuclear weapon 14,500 feet above the southern end of San Francisco Bay, with particular emphasis on operating employees, communications, electric department facilities, equipment and supplies. There will be widespread disruption of power to users within that portion of the city lying north and west of city center, although the downtown area and approximately 2/3 of the remaining portion of San Jose will continue to be provided electric power. Personnel, transportation, and supplies will remain in adequate supply in the post attack period. (Author)
